Pub of the week…

I was born in Morpeth so when I stumbled upon the Morpeth Arms on London’s Millbank near the Tate Britain I had to stay a while and sample the ale. I still have not discovered why it was named after Morpeth in Northumberland.
The Morpeth Arms was built in 1845 on the site of the original prison cells of Millbank Penitentiary, which is now home to the art museum Tate Britain. The public house is part of a great line up of buildings along the historic Millbank in Westminster, neighbouring Millbank Tower, Thames House and directly opposite MI6.

The pub is rumoured to be haunted by prisoners and prison staff from the Penitentiary.
