Bird’s Eye View… Part 7

The Croatians decided the walled city of Dubrovnik which is a Unesco World Heritage Site needed more defenses so thankfully they had built a fort on the top of the hill behind the city, this ultimately proved to be a very wise move as the City did not fall when besieged by the Yugoslav Peoples Army (JNA) during the 1991 conflict, and could well have acted as a tuning point in the conflict. The view shows the walled city and harbour below the hill fort and demonstrates the strategic position perfectly.

This little birdie is taking in the view of the old harbour at Dubrovnik from one of the many defensive towers incorporated in the historic city walls, advantageous views would have been gained of any approaching danger from anywhere along this stretch of Aegean coast.

H20 – Water Fall (2)

Perhaps I was stretching it a bit calling my last post a waterfall, it was after all just a trickle of water when compared to the magnificent waterfalls found in the Croatian National Park, this shot is along the river Korana at the village of Slunj, not far from the nearby lakes and fall’s of the more famous Plitvicka. I’m enjoying using The Girl that Dreams Awakes weekly challenge to force me into a regular post on my own blog as it also allows me to use some different subjects which I might never feature, like for example this shot of a fisherman in the port of Porec in Croatia, he makes it all look so peaceful and not overran by tourists, if only!?

There is an amazing national park called ‘Plitvicka’ in central Croatia, it was on our route between Dubrovnik and Zagreb and we were so glad to have called in, the rivers are just stunning and the Trout Farms that litter the countryside must be enjoyed..
